Xabi Alonso must decide his own fate, says Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez

Rafa Benitez claims it is up to Xabi Alonso to decide if he will join Real Madrid.
The Liverpool boss is growing tired of the stalemate over Alonso's proposed switch with Real's £24million offer falling short of his £32m asking price.
Benitez, who is tracking Wigan's £10m midfielder Lee Cattermole, has made a last effort to persuade Alonso to stay at Anfield, but admits the Basque will have the final say.
When asked whether Sunday's 5-0 friendly win over Singapore would be Alonso's last appearance for the Reds, Benitez said: "You never know, you have to ask him.
"Everyone has been asking me about the same question for two months. I think it's a question for him, not us.
"We signed him five years ago and renewed his contract two years ago. We know he's a great player and that's the reason we signed him and renewed his contract.
"We were not talking with Real and he knows our position. He's our player and has three more years on his contract. At the end of the day it all depends on him."
Another wantaway star, Andrea Dossena, would like to return home to join Napoli.
But the Serie A side are only prepared to pay just over half the £8m Liverpool shelled out for the Italy defender a year ago.
Dossena's agent Federico Pastorello claims Napoli are willing to offer £4.3m for the full-back, who made just 12 league starts last season.
"Although Andrea loves being at a great club like Liverpool, he would welcome the opportunity to join Napoli with great enthusiasm," said Pastorello.
American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have agreed to repay £60m of Liverpool's debts to clinch a refinancing deal with the club's lenders RBS and Wachovia.
