Xabi Alonso wants to stay at Liverpool

Xabi Alonso last night insisted he wants to stay at Liverpool after claiming Spain are ready to knock world champions Italy out of Euro 2008.

Midfielder Alonso is a £12million target for Italian giants Juventus but he said: "My plans are to start next season with Liverpool.

"I signed a contract last summer and I have four more years to go, unless there is a change. We'll see what happens."

Alonso has staked his claim for a starting place against Italy on Sunday and added: "We know it will be hard but we are ready."
