Odds on Sol Campbell, Newcastle's BIG summer signing plus Scottish-flavoured Boro to go up? Derek McGovern's Bets of the Day

Sol Campbell has arrived in Newcastle as the Toon army’s big signing of the season. They don’t come much bigger than Sol, not forgetting Mido, although Boro fans are trying their best to do so.

Fat cat Sol and his newly wed wife first realised he had gained weight when they visited a zoo on their honeymoon and the elephants started to throw peanuts at them.

Sol’s passport has a caption underneath the photo that reads, “Continues overleaf”

An unflattering photo of Sol has been doing the rounds and embarrassing the veteran defender for some time now. The incriminating snap dates back to when the former international was caught on camera wearing a Spurs shirt.

Campbell is quite a size these days, the only exercise he gets is when he runs his contract down.

The former Arsenal man is on the garlic diet, you don’t actually lose any weight but from a distance your friends think you look slimmer.

Hills offer 33-1 for Sol to appear on Celebrity Fat Club and 20-1 to play in every single Premier League game this season.

*********

Two questions I often get asked: “Do you get paid for this rubbish?” And, “How do you think Celtic or Rangers would get on in the Premier League?”

I can answer both questions in just two words, yes and badly. Both words apply to the first question.

Former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has been quietly luring Scottish players to Middlesbrough and you have to say it is an excellent strategy. If you’ve been living in Scotland all your life you probably think the Middlesbrough is quite nice.

Strachan’s boys are favourites for the Championship after the wee Scot drafted in no less than seven experienced players from either Rangers or Celtic.

Strikers Kris Boyd and Scott McDonald will score a bagpipe full for Boro and are a great bet at 6-1 to top England’s second tier.
