The Newcastle stadium mystery is the name of the game
Mike Ashley has decided to take Newcastle off the market due to economic uncertainty, an unstable market, and the fact nobody made a bid.
The Barry Moat-led consortium ran into difficulties over plans to improve the ground. He was the only one who wanted a trench of water circling the pitch
One sure-fire way of getting money for nothing is by offering to sell the naming rights to a stadium. The firm trading as 'St James' Park' have apparently refused to renew their contract.
But if nobody can be found to stump up £100million to buy the club it's highly unlikely anyone's going to pay £20million to associate their name with the ground.
Hills offer 4-7 that St James' Park is still St James' Park on the first day of next season. That looks nailed on, though some might fancy 25-1 that Sports Direct sponsor the ground - after all its owner is Ashley, the man with a track record for throwing silly money at the club.
Ashley has appointed Chris Hughton as full-time manager - now he's thrown a silly boss at the club - and the best thing you can say about that is that at least it stops Alan Shearer getting the job.
Hughton is 1-2 with bet365 to last the season and 6-4 not to.
