There's only one sour note to Birmingham's season... it's going to end on Sunday!
So, we’re unbeaten at home since September, are in line to finish ninth in the league… and the only bad thing I can say is that it's all going to end on Sunday!
Last week's win against Burnley was just the tonic to lift the fans at the end of a wobbly patch where we’ve looked tired and have failed to get the results. The home scoring debut of Chucho was much welcomed, and the atmosphere at St. Andrews was nothing short of a party.
The lap of honour was truly appreciated by the fans, who stayed behind in their thousands. It felt only right that we should congratulate a side that has given their all this season, and produced a fantastic unbeaten run, an enviable home record and a FA Cup semi-final.
It’s not all over, however, and we need to end the season in style at Bolton. They haven’t had the best run of form lately, with four losses from their last six matches. However, like us, they’ll be looking to give the fans a good send off at the Reebok, and look to end the season on a positive note.
The team should ideally stay the same as against Burnley, with Chucho up front with Cameron Jerome. Perhaps now that he has broken his home duck, he can now go on to score in consecutive matches. He is a little firecracker up front, and his movement is very good. He’s exciting and he does make things happen, and let's hope he can bag another to potentially convince Alex McLeish to negotiate a deal for the player.
With 4,700 Bluenoses travelling to Bolton, many in fancy dress, it should be a great atmosphere and a good send off for the team. We’ll regrettably be saying goodbye to Joe Hart, who we’d kidnap if we could, who will be going back to Manchester City. It could also potentially be the last time we see Chucho in a Birmingham shirt, so we need to send him away with fantastic memories of the Brummie faithful.
A win at the weekend would most likely see us seal ninth, and keep the positive momentum moving into the close season. It's expected that many new faces should be joining the club in the summer, and the memories of what those in the squad did this season will most likely fade fast. Although the idea of further development of the squad is tantalising, with the progress and success we’ve had this season, did we really ever want it to end?
Prediction: Blues 2-1 Bolton
As a side note, I’d like to thank everyone who has said kind words about my blog, and given feedback or been involved in debate. I’ve had some fantastic opportunities from writing this piece this season, and it’s given me a greater insight into my own club. Bring on next season!
