The original Chicharito goal scored via face and Bayern Munich XI vs 30-man team

And lo, fans across the land did rejoice that football is back!

Not only did the lower leagues kick off on the weekend, but Premier League big guns Manchester United and Chelsea were in action in the Community Shield on Sunday. The new season will be well and truly with us come Saturday, when the Premier League gets going as well. Hurrah!

1) Speaking of the Community Shield, all the talk after the match was Javier Hernandez's debut goal for United. El Chicharito scored by the slightly unorthodox - but clearly no less effective - method of kicking the ball into his own face.

2) But it turns out the Little Pea isn't the first place to score a goal in such an odd fashion. Here is Bury defender Chris Brass scoring an own goal against Darlington back in 2007. Bet he was red-faced after that...

3) Bayern Munich had a pretty stellar season last term, winning the league and cup double and reaching the Champions League semi-final. Clearly the only way to stop such a successful team is to cheat by sneaking on an extra player or two. Or 30. We would have expected Diego Maradona to come up with this training technique, but here are the German champions playing against a 30-man team as part of their pre-season preparations. The Fitness First Winter Stars squad was made up of Winter Olympics gold medal-winners and a few Bayern veterans, including Lothar Matthaus. Despite the mismatch in numbers Bayern still managed to win 11-1!
