What other footballers should follow Rio Ferdinand's lead and start producing movies?
Rio Ferdinand might currently be starring in his own personal disaster movie on the pitch, but he's making a very different kind of film off of it.
The Manchester United defender is embarking on a second career as a producer, investing a large chunk of cash in Dead Man Running, a gritty gangster flick starring Omid Djalili, Danny Dyer and, er, 50 Cent. Masochists can see the fruits of his labours when the film hits screens on October 30.
All of which, naturally, got us thinking: what other movies should our top footballers get involved in?
Here's our best suggestions. As ever, leave yours in the comments box below...
1) Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard - Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
Liverpool's dynamic duo are naturals for the buddy movie: two kindred spirits facing relying on each other's talents to overcome insurmountable odds in the face of adversity (and amateurish team-mates). A Butch Cassidy... remake would be perfect - much like Liverpool's title campaigns, it even ends with a noble failure.
2) Sir Alex Ferguson - The Longest Day
Complete with an entirely unnecessary Director's Cut that adds an extra five minutes on to the end of the film for no discernible reason whatsoever.
3) Mark Hughes - Brewster's Millions
Hilarity ensues as our hapless manager is given £250million to spend - with the catch that he must blow it all on over-priced players before the end of the January transfer window. The tragicomic finale, in which Sparky desperately tries to blow his last £60million on Sergio Aguero, is a real humdinger.
4) Arsene Wenger - any black-and-white French film
Intelligent, absorbing and ever-so-slightly over-complicated, M. Wenger's celluloid masterpiece is a big hit with the chin-stroking metropolitan critics, thanks to its cosmopolitan cast, but fails to win any of the big prizes.
5) David Beckham - No Country For Old Men
This gritty drama follows an ageing figure as he attempts to beat time and help his nation one last time, against all the odds.
6) Ryan Giggs - My Left Foot
The beguiling tale of a moody, unassuming genius who rose from humble Celtic beginnings to amaze the world with his magical left foot.
7) Mick McCarthy - Dances With Wolves
The Molineux boss is in Oscar-winning form in his prestigious role as Frowns A Lot, as he attempts to conquer the Wild West (Midlands) before he gets banished to the badlands (of the Coca-Cola Championship).
8) Harry Redknapp - Cheaper By The Dozen
Heartwarming family comedy, featuring loveable comic favourite 'Arry Redknapp, as he gets ready for the transfer window. There's laughs aplenty as 'Arry makes a bid for Jermain Defoe!
9) Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Glen Johnson - The Thin Red Line
Brutal, harrowing drama, chronicling a tight-knit band of brave brothers as they bid to defend their cause, before getting blown apart by opposing forces. Not for viewers of a nervous disposition.
10) Sven-Goran Eriksson - Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves
Implausible fairy-tale set in deepest Nottingham, as our hero takes large amounts of cash off the rich for his dashing, daring deeds. Look out for the (very) brief cameo from Sol Campbell. The first half of the film is great, but the second reel, not so good…
