Football Manager 2010 new features blog Day 27: introducing the 70 new achievements - plus TWO new game videos
Hello again everyone. I hope you enjoyed the trailer from yesterday’s blog.
Today’s blog is about something that I’ve hinted about previously – “achievements”.
When you buy the boxed copy of the game, and go to install it on a PC, you will have 2 installation choices.
One choice is to install “offline”, which requires you to have the DVD in the drive whilst playing the game, with no need to be online at any time.
The other is to install via “Steam”, which requires you to be online when you first install the game. You can happily play the game when online or offline, with no need for the DVD to be in the drive at all.
In fact, using this system with your own unique log in, you can actually play the game on any computer in the world without the need of your DVD just by downloading the small piece of Steam software, and logging in to your account.
There are other benefits to installing via Steam too. During the lifetime of the game, we will release a handful of updates to the game, called patches. The reason for doing these will be to fix any issues that are brought to our attention, or to do data updates, or match engine updates. If you install via Steam and are online, you automatically get any patches that are released.
On top of this, if you install via Steam, there is an exclusive feature just for you, called “achievements”.
For those of you who also play games on the Xbox 360, you’ll be well aware of the concept of achievements. They are essentially little tools for telling you how well you are doing at the game, and what you have achieved, setting targets for you to hit. They also act as bragging rights amongst mates!
We have added a massive 70 potential achievements to Football Manager 2010. And I will today be exclusively revealing them through this very blog.
You should be able to work out for yourself what you need to do to get them, but if you can’t, then feel free to discuss and speculate over at our forums at www.sigames.com

Still reading? Well, here’s two new match engine video for you, taken with the very latest code.
People seemed already excited about the “work in progress videos” from a month or so ago, but this is the real deal now, picked randomly from a saved game in the studio – a feisty affair, and a more sedate match!
There’ll be loads more match engine videos next week as well as some revealing Q&As with the developers who have been building the game.
See you then...
