Football Manager 2010 new features blog Day 3: New, improved Assistant Manager! New screenshots!
In today's blog I'll be talking about improvements and additions to the assistant manager feedback in Football Manager 2010, and also talking more about the backroom advice feature which I spoke about in yesterday's blog.
As with anything in our games, we try and make it as realistic as possible. There'd be little point adding in something like backroom advice if you were going to get perfect advice every time.
Therefore, it's important to select your staff carefully in FM2010 if you want to be getting the best advice.
You can see on the right hand side of the screenshots abover that there is a section with bar graphs, which shows how good a member of staff is rated at different areas. The higher the rating in an area, the more likely you are to be getting accurate information.
On top of this, if a member of staff has high ratings in an area, such as recruitment, then they will offer more choices for you, so someone with high recruitment stats, may offer you three choices of players for a position, rather than one.
Another influence on the level is the 'Club Players Knowledge'. This is how well a staff member knows the players at the club. It is based on the time the staff member has been at the club and their own ability. So a staff member with good 'Recruitment Knowledge' but 'Poor Club Players Knowledge' will move down a level of advice as they don't know the club players well enough to offer the best advice. They might offer you two, rather than three, as they aren't sure who will be better than your own clubs player, as they don't know the player well enough!
But it can also be a positive, as a medium 'Tactical Knowledge' will get a boost should the staff member have very good 'Club Players Knowledge' will give them a boost
That's enough about that for now - you'll be able to find out more and try it for yourself when we release the demo of the game. And MirrorFootball will be the first place to get it from.
Now on to improvements in the assistant manager feedback.
Your assistant is there to give you advice in most areas of the game, just as they would do in real life, and we've expanded the areas that they'll be able to help you with this year.
As well as all the things that have gone into the backroom advice section, the assistant will also now give you feedback on players playing out of position, and whether they are likely to be capable of playing there.
We've also added in feedback when players have poor motivation for a bunch of different reasons, like disliking the captain, the pressure of scouts coming to watch him, or even if he dislikes you, with suggestions on how to fix it.
We've improved the intelligence of assistants as well - or, actually, made it worse! Their scouting abilities will have to be very good now if you want them to give the right comments when you're looking to sign a player or let you know if he thinks the player will be likely to get a work permit or not.
He'll also help you with setting 'opposition instructions' in the lead up to playing a match,
So that's a whole lot more help from your staff in your quest for glory.
Next week is match engine week. We'll be looking at the improvements and additions for the 3D match view, improvements to the match engine itself, the all new match analysis feature and the also also new tactics creator. And some videos of the FM2010 match engine in action too. It's going to be a very busy week.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
