Gladson Awako profile: 10 things you need to know about the Tottenham target

Tottenham are doing battle with Inter Milan for Ghanaian starlet Gladson Awako.

So what do we know about the prodigious teenager..?

1) Awako is 18 years old and plays for Heart Of Lions, who appear in Ghana's Telecom Premier League and hail from Kpandu.

2) The youngster shares a birthday with Sir Alex Ferguson, born as he was on New Year's Eve. Awako was just a day old when Fergie's Fledglings beat Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane on January 1, 1991, thanks to goals by Brian McClair and Steve Bruce - on his 30th birthday.

3) Awako began his career with Arsenal but Gunners fans needn't worry - we're talking about Berekum Arsenal - another Ghanaian side.

4) In 2006 Gladson moved to All Stars FC, where he scored seven league goals in 60 matches.

5) Partly due to his height - he is just 5ft 5in tall - the 18-year-old plays at left full-back, but such is his speed, skill and versatility he can also play at right-back and in midfield.

6) Awako played in the Ghana side that won this year's African Youth Championships, which was played in Rwanda in February.

7) The Black Satellites went on to win the Under-20 World Cup recently beating Brazil with 10 men in the final. Although Awako remained on the bench in the final, he played five times at the tournament in Egypt.

8) If Spurs miss out on the Ghanaian they will kick themselves as they had the chance to sign him earlier this year. Awako came for a trial at White Hart Lane in April but failed to earn a permanent deal with the north London club.

9) Since the African Youth Championships win two Italian sides have shown a strong interest in Awako. Serie A champions Inter have had him on trial while Chievo reportedly bid £1.3m for his services earlier this year.

10) Awako is determined to make the grade in Europe and said recently: "I probably will move in January, but nothing is settled. If I come to Europe, it could be to England or France."
