Paper Talk: All of Tuesday's transfer gossip from the national media
Everyone is expecting David Beckham to return to Europe in January, at least on loan from LA Galaxy. AC Milan, where he spent six months last season, was expected to be his destination, but not if his former Real Madrid team-mate, Michel Salgado, can help it. The new Blackburn defender is hoping to convince his old mate to swap LA for Lancashire instead. Hmmm... the San Siro or Ewood Park? Watch this space... (The Sun)
Barcelona , meanwhile, are ready to pre-empt any January moves for Lionel Messi by wealthy suitors like Manchester City or Real Madrid, by offering the Argetine ace a mega-bucks deal worth £170,000 a week - after tax. (Daily Mail)
Meanwhile, back in the Premier League, Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood , who has been struggling with a foot injury, is aiming to prove his fitness in order to secure a three-month loan move to Newcastle . (Daily Mirror)
Another Championship club looking to strengthen are West Brom . They want to sign Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara on loan. (The Sun)
And Baggies boss Roberto di Matteo also wants to agree a loan deal for Blackburn defender Zuran Khizanishvili . (Daily Mirror)
Another defender on the move is Bolton centre-back Danny Shittu . He is off to Sheffield United on loan, with a view to a permanent switch. (Daily Mirror)
While Shittu gets set for a move to the Championship, however, one man looking likely to leave the division is Michael Mifsud . The Malta international is a free agent after leaving Coventry and he is wanted as part of Sven Goran Eriksson's Notts County revolution. (Daily Star)
Another North-East club making moves in the transfer market are Middlesbrough , with manager Gareth Southgate poised to tie up loan deals for Preston defender Sean St Ledger and Hull striker Caleb Folan . (Daily Mail)
And finally, Preston are keen on Stockport striker Carl Baker . (The Sun)
