Paper Talk: Emile Heskey for Blackburn and the best of the rest of today's transfer tittle-tattle
Blackburn are keen to bolster their firepower in the January transfer window by adding a new goalscorer to their squad. Failing that, however, they will launch a raid for Aston Villa's Emile Heskey. The 31-year-old has found himself on the fringes at Villa this season, and could move to protect his England World Cup chances. (The Sun).
If Heskey does leave, Villa are ready to launch a bid for Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd . (Daily Star)
Chelsea are also in the market for a new striker and they are keeping tabs on Ghanaian Dominic Adiyiah , who plays for Fredrikstad FK in Norway. Any move will b subject to their transfer ban being lifted, of course. (The Sun)
There could be deals in the offing in north London as well. Tottenham are lining up a £14million deal for Internacional's Brazilian midfielder Sandro , while Harry Redknapp could be ready to offload Gareth Bale to Birmingham in a £3million move. (Daily Mirror)
Arsenal are getting set for a New Year recruitment drive. And their main target is Ajax's highly-rated 21-year-old full-back Gregory van der Wiel , who recently broke into the Dutch national team. (Daily Mirror)
As one player maybe gets set for a move to England, however, another could be leaving these shores. Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford is a surprise target for Portuguese side Benfica. (Daily Star)
Portsmouth , meanwhile, are giving a trial to former Millwall and Plymouth striker Cherno Samba as they look to bolster their hopes of avoiding the drop from the Premier League. (Daily Mail)
Trying to get back into the Premier League are Sheffield United , and they keen to make on-loan keeper Mark Bunn's move to Bramall Lane permanent after Paddy Kenny lost his appeal against a nine month drugs ban. (Daily Mirror)
