Paper Talk: Robinho and Sven both look to be heading for pastures new, and the rest of Tuesday's media gossip
They said it wouldn't last, and it looks as though it won't. Sven Goran Eriksson , who claimed he was in it for the long haul at Notts County , now appears he will be the latest to leave Meadow Lane. The former England boss is wanted as the national coach of his home country, Sweden , and has a "gentlemen's agreement" with Country supremo Peter Trembling that allows him to talk to interested parties. (Daily Mirror)
Also heading for passport control is Robinho . The Manchester City maverick will be allowed to leave Eastlands for Barcelona in January, providing City can agree a deal with Bayern Munich to sign Frenchman Franck Ribery as his replacement. (Daily Mail)
Elsewhere, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is on the trail of more defensive cover. He's planning a £5million raid January raid for Club Brugge's Vadis Odjidja . (The Sun)
Meanwhile, Sheffield United central defender Matthew Kilgallon will spark a January transfer scramble by turning down the Blades' £20,000 a week offer to stay at Bramall Lane. Wigan, Bolton, Celtic and Middlesbrough are all keen on the £4m-rated stopper. (Daily Mirror)
Moving on to managers in the news, and Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson is hoping to wriggle out of a touchline ban by stating in his defence that no manager has ever been punished in that way for post-match comments. Fergie's defence team will claim that as his offence - calling ref Alan Wiley "unfit" occurred outside the technical area, that he should not be barred from pitchside. (Daily Mirror)
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger , meanwhile, has revealed that he plans to remain in football as long as he lives. "If I have health, I want to work as long as I live," he said. (The Sun)
Newcastle caretaker-manager Chris Hughton will be offered the job at St James' Park on a permanent basis this week - with owner Mike Ashley also preparing to take the club off the market. (Daily Mirror)
Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni is planning to try to persuade Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill to switch national allegiance away from England. Cahill has featured in a number of Fabio Capello's squads but has yet to play, and qualifies for Ireland via one of his grandparents. (Daily Mirror)
Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny will use Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro's escape from a drugs ban as part of his defence in Tuesday's appeal against a nine-month suspension for taking prohibited substance ephedrine. Cannavaro failed a drugs test after using cortisone to prevent an allergic reaction to a bee sting but was given a reprieve. (Daily Mail)
Former Hull striker Dean Windass wants to replace Mike Newell as the new Grimsby manager. (Daily Mirror)
Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorenson has agreed terms on a new two-year contract with the club. (Daily Express)
Liverpool are taking no chances ahead of Sunday's visit from Manchester United . They will search all visiting fans as they enter Anfield looking for any items - including beach balls - that could be thrown on to the pitch. (The Guardian)
