Sandro profile: 10 things you need to know about the Tottenham new boy, plus video of him in action
Tottenham have confirmed they have a deal to sign of Brazilian midfielder Sandra, subject to a medical. But who exactly is the highly-rated youngster?
MirrorFootball's Sam Rogan fills in the details...
1) Sandro Ranieri Guimaraes Cordeiro (luckily for the UK's commentators, he goes by the name Sandro) was born on March 15, 1989 in Riachinho, Brazil.
2) A commanding defensive midfielder, Sandro stands 6'1 1/2" in his socks
3) A former captain of Brazil's Under-20 side, he made his senior debut as a substitute in the World Cup qualifying win against Chile in September 2009.
4) He came up through the youth system of Internacional, the Brazilian team that won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2006, beating Barcelona in the final in Yokohama.
5) Although he is already being talked about as 'the next big thing', Sandro only broke into Internacional's first team last year. He's now made over 30 appearances and scored just the one goal:
6) Tottenham first tried to buy Sandro back in August, but the move was blocked due to work permit regulations.
7) This transfer will b the first fruits of the partnership entered into between Spurs and Internacional back in August 2009. At the time, chairman Daniel Levy said: "This co-operation between our two clubs, which will see an exchange of coaching methodologies as well as exchange visits, means that we shall be able to effect the placement and development of players from Brazil and South America with both ourselves or other European Leagues." And so it came to pass...
8) Sandro is known for his ruthless tackling and amazing stamina. So he should be right at home in the Premier League.
9) You can see what FootBrazil think of young Sandro in the video below. His segment starts at 2.18 in:
10) Just be thankful he didn't follow in the footsteps of his musician brother. Otherwise, instead of seeing skills like the ones on display above, we would be seeing more of this kind of thing:
