Modric, Meireles and Sneijder: Top 10 transfer deals we expect to happen before the window shuts

We are right at the business end of the transfer window now, as teams up and down the country attempt to get those last few deals completed before the window slams shut at 11pm on Wednesday night.

There may be less than 36 hours remaining, but plenty of managers are still hoping to do some business before the music stops - not least Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp.

Here, Football Spy supremo Darren Lewis runs the rule over the 10 biggest deals that he thinks will happen by the end of play on Wednesday.

1) Andre Santos - Fenerbahce to Arsenal
With Gael Clichy sold to Manchester City and Armand Traore to QPR, Arsene Wenger has moved for experience in the form of the 28-year-old left-back.

He has played for Brazil on 22 occasions. He moved to Turkey from Corinthians two years ago. A medical is expected today ahead of a £6million deal.

2) Luka Modric - Tottenham to Chelsea
Daniel Levy has backed himself into a corner with this one. Yet Chelsea could get him off the hook with a blockbuster deadline day offer of around £40million. Either way, his continued presence - given that he no longer wants to play for Spurs - is getting to his team-mates.

3) Raul Meireles - Liverpool to Chelsea
Andre Villas-Boas has worked with him before and we all saw at the back end of last season what he can do when he is on his game. Liverpool will sell at the right price.

4) Gary Cahill - Bolton to Tottenham
Harry Redknapp is likely to pay what Bolton want to get him after Arsenal dithered. But don't rule out the Gunners making another late run at him, as well as...

5) Per Mertesacker - Werder Bremen to Arsenal
Cheap, experienced and can slot straight into the team. A no-brainer for Wenger, who clearly needs defensive recruits after Sunday's horror show at Manchester United.

6) David Ngog - Liverpool to Bolton
The striker is surplus to requirements at Anfield, but Bolton boss Owen Coyle is a huge fan and has been after him for some time.

7) Shaun Wright-Phillips - Manchester City to QPR
Has had Joey Barton in his ear persuading him to make the move but the cash on offer from Tony Fernandes - who is more than capable of matching his City wages - may have more of an impact.

8) Davide Santon - Inter Milan to Newcastle
A huge coup for Newcastle if they pull this off. Santon is seen as a replacement for Jose Enrique but he is also a big talent and, at 20, will only improve. Roma want him too, but his people say he only has eyes for the Premier League.

9) Alvaro Pereira - Porto to Chelsea
No longer wants to play for his club, now that he knows former boss Andre Villas-Boas wants him at Stamford Bridge. The two clubs are miles apart in terms of valuation, but pragmatism should win out by Wednesday night.

10) Wesley Sneijder - Inter Milan to Manchester United
Neck-on-the-block time with this one. He has been unable to agree terms with United for some time now but United can't possibly hope to dethrone Barcelona without his a player of his stellar abilities, can they?

Sneijder has been insisting this week that he is now set to stay at Inter. But United coach Rene Meulensteen insists - even this late - that a deal could still be done.
