The '70s hi-tech miracle that was a Stoke scarf...
Scarf Ace
The 1970s brought us many great new technological miracles. The digital watch with the numbers that glowed red; test-tube babies (invitro fertilisation that is, not the band); that tennis video game that went beep boop; video recorders; calculators; and, most important of all, the ability to print photographs onto fabric.
At first we had Six Million Dollar Man pyjamas and Osmonds T-Shirts. Then Cooke & Hurst of Wigston (the company that made Admiral kits) brought the technology to football and ‘picture scarves’ were available for all the top sides, including Super Stoke.
Who needed the Bionic Woman, the Bay City Rollers or the Wombles when you could have Mike Pejic, Alan Bloor and Geoff Salmons portrayed in glorious polyester pixels?
