Vintage Claret - the best kit in the Prem?

Football treasure unearthed by Gary Silke & Derek Hammond...

It’s a marketing man’s dream. On the 50th Anniversary of their last League Championship title, Burnley get promoted to the top flight for the first time since 1976.

A few teams have dipped their toes into the retro kit idea, but Burnley have taken the plunge and done it properly. They’ve changed the club badge so that, but for the advert on the chest, the Clarets’ kit for the 2009-10 Premier League campaign is identical to the one worn by Alex Elder, Jimmy Adamson and Jimmy McIlroy when they came top of the pile in 1960. And hats off to kit makers Errea who have left their logo off the shirt in the name of purity.

They’ve gone down a storm with the Burnley fans – they sold 4,000 on the first day of release, and continue to put to shame the self-coloured, fancy-trimmed, logo-loaded nylon nightmares (available in nine exciting new colours!) favoured by virtually every other club.
