Liverpool Premier League season preview: Fan's eye view
With Reds fan Garreth Cummins
1) Have you got over your World Cup blues?
I've somehow managed to last the 20 or so days from the end of the World Cup to the beginning of the season through a mixture of Test matches, The Open and the Tour de France. Thank God football's back.
2) Are you happy with your squad?
That all depends how it looks on September 1 after all the comings and goings. At the moment we're desperately short at left-back, and are lacking decent cover in a number of positions. Our first-choice eleven still stacks up well against the rest of the league, but there's very little strength in depth.
3) Who will be your key player this season and why?
While it would be easy to say Fernando Torres or Steven Gerrard, more rests on the central partnership. If Javier Mascherano leaves, whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill, and Lucas who improved immensely last year, needs to keep that progression going.
4) Realistically, what will be a good season for your club?
Given the ownership debacle, lack of investment and managerial turmoil over the summer, I'd be happy with a season that saw us qualify for Europe. Teams have been strengthening over recent years while we've stalled, so there's a real fight on for a top six or seven finish.
5) Which opposing player will you hate the most and why?
I tend not to focus much attention on other teams throughout the year, but for two days each season they'll be 11 men in blue and white from the other side of Stanley Park who I'll happily direct my rage at.
