Top 10 goalkeeper goals video special, starring Peter Schmeichel, Paul Robinson, Jimmy Glass, Luis Chilavert and many more

Today: Standard Liege qualified for the Europa League last night thanks to a battling 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar.

The twist in this particular tale, though, was that the crucial equaliser - scored some five minutes into injury time - came courtesy of the Belgian's goalkeeper Bolat.

Goalies have a long and distinguished history of breaking free from their defensive shackles and doing the business at the other end of the pitch, as this Top 10 proves:

1) To kick us off - and show other goalkeepers how it is done - here is Brazilian Rogério Ceni. The 36-year-old, capped 17 times for his country had Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos and friends above him in the national free-kick / penalty pecking order.

He got more of a look-in at domestic club Sao Paulo, though. And - with over 80 goals to his name (in 2005 he managed a jaw-dropping 20!) - you can't blame his team-mates for stepping aside.

In fact, he's so good that some bright spark put this video together asking who's the better free-kick taker: Ceni or Nakamura?

2) They must put something in the South American water: here's another legendary 'keeper who scored a sack-full of goals in his career: Paraguay's Jose Luis Chilavert .

Capped 74 times for his country, the former Velez Sáarsfield and Strasbourg star scored eight international goals. Chilavert, whose middle name is Felix, proved quite the cat in between the sticks - but he was a star at the other end too, as this classic clip proves:

3) Back on home soil, at the ripe old age of 37 former Welsh international Mark Crossley , playing his 481st career match, scored his first and only goal - a last-minute leveller for Sheffield Wednesday against Southampton two days before Christmas in 2006. And the ex-Nottingham Forest stopper is rather boastful after hitting the back of the net!

4) German Hans-Jorg Butt, Bayer Leverkusen's former goalkeeper and penalty taker, got egg on his face in April 2004 after he slotted a spot kick to put his team 3-1 up against Schalke - one of 26 goals he managed in the Bundesliga. As Butt, selected three times for his country, celebrates and trots back to his goal, he … Well, see for yourselves.

5) Here Manchester United stopper Tomasz Kuszczak concedes a goal to his opposite man while on international duty for Poland. In the friendly - a warm-up for the World Cup in Germany three years ago - Luis Enrique "Neco" Martinez Rodriguez of Colombia leaves the Red Devil red faced.

6) Jimmy Glass's goal, deep into stoppage time, for Carlisle United against Plymouth Argyle in the final game of the 1998/99 season, gave his loan team the win they needed to escape relegation to the Football Conference.

In only his third (and final) game for the club - he moved back to Swindon - the 'keeper was carried off the field by jubilant Blues' fans and is regarded as a club hero. The stuff that dreams are made of …

7) From one goalkeeping hero to another - Manchester United's Peter Schmeichel. In the 1994/95 season he great Dane, capped for his country a record 129 times, netted in the final seconds of a Uefa Cup clash against Russian side Rotor Volgograd. Though it drew Sir Alex Ferguson's team level, United were still eliminated on the away goals rule.

8) Paul Robinson, fully adorned in banana-yellow kit, will always be remembered for letting in THAT goal against Croatia. But in July 2007 against Watford the former Tottenham stopper pelted a free-kick from 88-yards that looped over another England candidate, Ben Foster's head.

9) In March 2007 Andres Palop was Seville's saviour in a last-16 tie against Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk . Trailing 2-1, the defending champions were staring at elimination, but the 'keeper's headed goal in the fourth minute of injury time forced extra time.

Sevilla went on to win the match 3-2 - and went on to win the whole competition (Palop saved three of Espanyol's penalties in the final).

10) This is a cracker, too. South Korean goalkeeper Jung Sung-Ryong, while representing his country's Under-23s against Ivory Coast, hit the back of the next with a HUGE kick.
