Lionel Flair: Messi's top five goals of all-time
By Richard Arrowsmith
Lionel Messi is not only a great scorer of goals, he's a scorer of great goals. The Argentinean pocket rocket is on fire at the moment with 11 goals in his last five games, including a second successive La Liga hat-trick during Sunday night's 4-2 win over Real Zaragoza.
His latest flash of genius has prompted the Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, to claim that Messi is "the best player in the history of football".
High praise indeed but, watching these goals, it's kinda hard to argue...
5) Barcelona v Real Zaragoza, La Liga, March 21, 2010 The pick of Messi's hat-trick last night was the slalom dribble and finish for his second. (Two minutes into the clip)
4) Barcelona v Stuttgart, Champions League, March 16, 2010 Despite being surrounded by no fewer than four Stuttgart players, Messi still managed to find the top corner for the opening goal of his brace during last week's Champions League game.
3) Argentina vs Mexico, Copa America July 2, 2007 Messi hasn't always excelled for his country like he has for his club - but this audacious lob against Mexico is an obvious exception.
2) Barcelona vs Real Madrid, La Liga, March 10, 2007 Messi made his mark on the biggest game in Spain with a treble in El Casico as Barca three times came from behind against their bitter rivals from Madrid, with this strike - his third - the final nail in the Catalans' coffin.
1) Barcelona vs Getafe, Copa Del Ray, April 18, 2007 In what could have been a homage to his hero, Diego Maradona, Messi beat practically every player on the field to score one of the greatest solo goals ever.
