Stephen Ireland pimps his ride, plus: remembering Keith Alexander and Paul Canoville's relationship advice
By Steve Anglesey, Sports Diarist of the Year nominee 2010
Manchester City’s Stephen Ireland is known for pimping his rides, splashing out on customised wheel rims, leather seats and even personalised ‘Superman’ insignias.
The midfielder with the dubious grannies is currently selling his tricked-out Audi R8, which comes complete with a modified grille, Audi badges in blue neon, a Superman logo on the fuel cap , privacy glass, heated seats and sound system boasting eight-inch rear sub-woofers with blue neon surrounds.
However, there’s one important accessory which has overlooked his attention – on a recent visit to City’s training ground Ireland’s Porsche Cayenne was sporting a tax disc two months out of date.

Friends are remembering one of late Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander’s finest moments.
Sent to the stands after rowing with an official, Alexander managed to persuade the referee to change his mind and was told he could remain in the dugout if he “stayed inconspicuous”.
Replied Alexander: "I'm a six-foot-five black man in Macclesfield. How the hell am I going to stay inconspicuous?"

Former Chelsea winger Paul Canoville was a sound choice as a Sky Sports pundit ahead of the Blues’ defeat by Manchester City last week.
As his award-winning autobiography reveals, Canoville was ideally placed to comment on John Terry’s problems with Wayne Bridge – as he has fathered 11 children by nine different women.
