Corden's carp cuddles, Uncle Ken at it again and cruel Cole chant

James Corden's dismal World Cup show was one of the TV lowlights of summer. But it could have been so very different.

Professional angler Ian Chilcott was involved behind the scenes during the segment when Corden went carp fishing with John Terry and was detailed to catch a giant fish the duo could claim as their own.

Said Chilcott: "I don't think any of them had seen a live fish of that size. She made a lasting impression, especially on James, because all he could think of was sticking certain parts of his anatomy in the carp's mouth."

Cuddly Ken Bates just can't help himself.

On Friday he offered this advice to any prospective football club owners: "Be nice to people on the way up, since you might meet them on the way down."

Twenty-four hours later, the Leeds supremo's programme notes included these kind words: "What an end of season that was. Then living on the sink estate of League One was over and with it bye-bye to Carlisle and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy."
