Liverpool flop's Erik's nickname was a Meijer disaster
Spotted signing (a very few) autographs at Anfield on Saturday: famed Houllier-era flop Erik Meijer.
His appearance brought back fond memories of the day Meijer signed and was asked at a press conference whether he'd been given a nickname back in Holland. "They used to call me the Butcher," said Meijer, sending the local hacks into a frenzy. Had he been given the moniker because of his fierce tackling and never-say-die attitude?
"No," replied the striker. "It's because my dad used to work in a butcher's."
