Shipp's been on the chips, joke's on Manford thanks to Robinho and star's dirty habit

Last week Sam Allardyce claimed that Benni McCarthy was not fat but simply suffering from an "addiction to sugar".

Wonder what he'll say when he sees this snap of former Palace striker Neil Shipperley - these days being referred to as Neil Chipperley. Picture by Simon Roe.

New One Show host Jason Manford has taken delivery of a specially-heated Manchester City coaches chair like the one used by Roberto Mancini at Eastlands in thanks for doing his stand-up routine at the club's charity events.

Any memorable nights? "Robinho was an odd one," said Manford. "I did a joke about him and he laughed - and I thought 'Oh, that's nice'.

"I met him afterwards and he didn't speak a word of English, so I said to his interpreter 'How come he laughed at that joke?' And he said, 'He just heard his name, so he was being polite.'"

WICKED WHISTLE

Which out-of-favour player spends every Saturday night in a Manchester club, where he delights punters with his party piece - dropping his trousers and sticking a straw into a delicate part of his anatomy?

That thumping at Newcastle wasn't the only headache this week for Aston Villa.

When young Barry Bannan scored at Rapid Vienna on Thursday night assistant coach Tony McAndrew was so excited he jumped up and gashed his head on the dug-out roof.

Unfortunately McAndrew is currently taking blood-thinning drug Warfarin, resulting in a lot of claret being spilled for the claret and blues.
