Not a reader? G-Nev reveals he hasn't bought a newspaper for seven years, plus Twitter fouls-ups aplenty
Gary Neville’s refusal to sugar-coat criticism, even when aimed at Manchester United, has made him a superb replacement for Andy Gray at Sky Sports.
So it might have been expected that when Red Nev was feted by press journalists at a tribute dinner last week, he spent part of a Q&A moaning about critical media coverage and claiming not to have bought a newspaper for seven years.

Twitter provides players with an opportunity to show they’re just like ordinary fans, and no doubt Manchester United’s great midfield hope Tom Cleverley thought he was acting, erm, cleverly when on Saturday morning he Tweeted: “From the banks of the Irlam to Sicily!! Come on United."
Alas, the famous Old Trafford anthem actually goes, “From the banks of the River Irwell, to the shores of Sicily.”

But by far the biggest Twitter disaster of last week was Liverpool’s decision, a day before the Manchester United game from which he was suspended for racially abusing Patrice Evra, to ask for fans’ “favourite Luis Suarez moments so far” – leading to responses like “when he told Rosa Parks to get out of his seat on the bus”.

Manchester City supporters who feared money and success might see the club might lose its soul will be heartened by a recent interview with noted football expert Nancy Dell’Olio.
“When I used to live in Italy my international team was always Manchester United,” she said. “I was a big supporter of them and I loved the way the club was structured. But I have to say I’m a Manchester City fan now.”

The most baffling phenomenon in modern football goes on. Despite the long-standing enmity between Liverpool and Manchester United supporters, stalls outside Anfield on Saturday were doing a roaring trade in half-and-half commemorative scarves.
