Chelsea may be in pole position, but Carlo Ancelotti will still splash the cash in January

Nobody believes for one second that Carlo Ancelotti is so happy with his Chelsea squad that he won't be adding to it in January.

The Blues' boss, presumably mindful of clubs hiking up their prices when the window
re-opens, was diffident when news broke last Friday to confirm that the transfer ban - imposed in the wake of the Gael Kakuta affair - had been lifted.

And Chelsea will need to strengthen because their win over Manchester United on Sunday - even though it puts the Blues five points clear at the top - can be put into perspective by two facts.

The first is that Manchester United have not managed to win at Stamford Bridge since 2002, yet have still won the title four times.

The second is that Manchester United managed to win the title last season having beaten just one team - Chelsea - in the top four.

United may not have Cristiano Ronaldo, but they still have an ability to win without playing particularly well.

And with free scoring Arsenal looming up on the rails, this title race may yet end up as a photo-finish.

Sergio Aguero, Aaron Lennon and Chelsea's Top 10 January transfer targets now ban is lifted
