Sad to see Pompey's desperation for anyone with a dime
Always satisfying to see football clubs backtrack the way Portsmouth did after initially suggesting the Mirror’s story about new owner Ali Al Faraj last week was fabricated.
Al Faraj gave an interview to a newspaper in the Middle East where he insisted he was actually not the billionaire benefactor that he was being made out to be and that he was only going to be around for six months at the most.
Pompey got all uppity when the Mirror ran the story, threatened legal action and then rang around to lots of other papers discouraging from following up on it – maintaining it was a pack of lies.
Only to have to sheepishly call everyone back once they had established that it WAS actually true and that Al Faraj HAD actually said them things.
And yet, as much as it was satisfying to witness the climbdown, it was sad to see that fans at Portsmouth are so desperate for someone to come in and bail them out that they are willing to accept any Tom, Dick or Ahmed as long as he CLAIMS he has a few bob and is willing to bail them out.
First Al Fahim took them for a ride and now this. It looks as though this once great club really has been reduced to something to be kicked around and ridden roughshod over.
