Bolton wouldn't be in this mess now if Megson were still in charge
Two months in and Phil Gartside's decision to axe Gary Megson is really paying off.
Whatever trouble Gartside thought Bolton were in at Christmas is nothing to the real crisis gripping the Reebok now.
Sunday's defeat at Blackburn was as abject as they come and Wanderers really are in danger of going down.
But of course the boo boys who helped hound Megson out will say it's all his fault.
They are his players and so he should carry the can.
They will not blame Owen Coyle, even though the man who dubbed himself Moses at Burnley is in danger of turning out to be a false prophet.
To be fair to Coyle, he proved he is a good manager at Burnley and losing Gary Cahill was a huge blow, particularly for a club like Bolton.
The Scot was the know-how to save Wanderers and getting them out of this tight hole would rival taking Burnley up last season.
I hope he succeeds and despite saying two months ago that Bolton would rue they day they treated Megson so badly, I would take no pleasure in seeing them go down.
Wanderers are a welcoming, friendly club, who have performed miracles over the last nine years to achieve everything they have done.
However I still believe they would not be in such a mess if Megson had been left to get on with the job.
Don't forget, they weren't in the bottom three when he got the chop and had taken five points from his last three games.
What Coyle, with just one league win to his name, would give now for that kind of run.
