Why Everton need to find some cash from somewhere, or risk losing Moyes to Spurs next summer

The words head, brick wall, against and banging spring to mind when I consider David Moyes' position at Everton.

Season after season he has upset the odds by qualifying for Europe and he has only finished outside the top seven twice in his nine full seasons in charge.

Yet Moyes can see those days are nearing an end because he can't keep pulling a rabbit out of a hat every year.

The top six look a closed shop with the two Manchesters, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, while Aston Villa, Newcastle and Stoke look better positioned to gather up the crumbs if seventh is enough for Europe this season.

Moyes knows this which is why he forecast at the start of the season that Everton would do well to finish in the top 10.

He has no money to buy new players and instead seems to be fighting a rearguard action to hang on to the ones he's got.

It seems ridiculous that he is already on the defensive over Ross Barkley when the kid is still only 17.

But the big boys know Everton remain vulnerable to predatory bids for their best players because of their debts.

All of this makes me wonder how Moyes motivates himself to carry on?

After his success of the last decade, the only way looks down for Everton and it isn't his fault.

I bumped into a former Everton captain over the weekend and he thought Moyes had the look of someone who'd had enough.

He said he sensed an acceptance in his body language at Goodison Park on Saturday that he couldn't do any more.

His comments saddened me because Moyes has proved himself to be one of the Premier League's top bosses during his Goodison reign.

I would love to see what he could achieve if he had some cash and can perhaps there is a scenario where that may happen.

Picture the scene - it's June 2012, England have lost in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 on penalties and Fabio Capello has said arrivederci.

The FA, bowing to public pressure, appoint Harry Redknapp as his successor and Tottenham need a new manager to lead them in the Champions League.

Who do they turn to? Well, according to the grapevine, they are already considering Moyes and I think it would be great to see him at a club where he could finally realise his full potential.

That's unless Bill Kenwright can find some sugar daddy before then to transform Everton's fortunes.

Any progress Bill?
