Tom Cairney gives Hull fans reasons to be cheerful

Hull fans don't have much to be optimistic about right now.

Their team is getting beaten from pillar to post and the Championship beckons.

But at least in Tom Cairney they can have hope for the future.

Cairney caught the eye when he scored on his debut aged just 18 against Southend in the Carling Cup earlier this season.

He impressed against Chelsea when he was up against Frank Lampard in only his second league appearance, prompting George Boateng to tip him as a future England star.

On Sunday he scored his first league goal at Everton - and he's still only 19.

Phil Brown is right to be excited about his home-grown starlet and it says it all about his ability and maturity that he has pitched him straight into the central midfield battleground.

Even if Hull do go down this season, players like Cairney will give them hope that they can make it back.
