Wolves' lack of quality signings mean Doyle deserves another Premier League club
I was at Kevin Doyle's unveiling as Wolves' record signing last summer following a £6.5million move from Reading.
And the Republic of Ireland striker has proved to be money well spent after a string of impressive displays.
Doyle, 26, has notched six goals in the process for the Premier League new boys.
But boss Mick McCarthy has admitted if Wolves make a quick return to the Championship, then keeping Doyle could be impossible.
Wolves facing a losing battle to keep Doyle
And quite frankly I wouldn't blame Doyle for jumping ship ASAP if Wanderers are relegated.
When Doyle arrived at Molineux he told the press he expected to be the first of several significant signings for the club.
He told us assembled hacks quite clearly that he was under the impression other big-name players would be on their way and this contributed to his decision to join Wolves.
So after Doyle had settled in to his new club I waited... and waited for these established top-flights stars to turn up.
Instead, the club signed the likes of Andrew Surman, Ronald Zubar, Stefan Maierhofer - well, at 6ft 8in, he is at least big - and Greg Halford.
Doyle has never said so publicly, but I wouldn't blame him for being cheesed off under the circumstances.
And even in January, with Wolves clearly in for a struggle, they had a chance to bolster their squad by spending owner Steve Morgan's cash.
But who did they go for? Geoffrey Mujangi Bia and Adiene Guedioura. Exactly!
Nevertheless, McCarthy's 17th-placed side do still have a chance of avoiding relegation.
They have a crunch game on Saturday at Burnley they need to win.
Defeat and relegation surely beckons - at which point all Wolves fans should say 'thank you and good luck' to Doyle.
