Why England could learn a thing or two from Denmark's attitude to the media
Covering England this week in Denmark was an eye opener.
At the Danish team's pre-match press conference, every player plus the manager was available for interview by journalists from newspapers, radio and TV. They stood around and chatted for an hour.
At the English press conference, Frank Lampard, as captain, also spoke. Credit to him - Frank's charming, friendly and is an excellent interviewee. But it was all over within half an hour.
Fabio Capello did the same. It was over even more quickly. And the little that he actually said in English that you could understand made it seem even shorter.
No other players were available.
If you go to work and someone treats you nicely and with respect then you will say nice things about them. If someone doesn't treat you so well then you won't be so gracious about them.
It's pretty basic.
In football, though. you can cut through all of that by winning games and World Cups. Then people can only be nice about you.
But if you're not that good, then use some nous. The Danes get it, but we don't.
