Meet Steve Zakuani - the MLS sensation who could play for England
We may be about to find out how seriously the rest of the world takes Major League Soccer.
Over there, Steve Zakuani has caused something of a sensation for Seattle Sounders this season, scoring ten goals and providing six assists. They love statistics in the great US of A.
Zakuani has won plenty of plaudits which include being shortlisted for the 2009 MLS Rookie of the Year award and the top selection in the 2009 MLS Super Draft. That all means he's young, talented and sought after.
But what is really interesting about 22-year-old Zakuani is that he was born in Zaire (now the Congo) but moved to London when he was four and grew up in north London. He had spells at West Ham, QPR and then Arsenal before finally making a career in the US.
The US federation are making moves to sign up Zakuani and he's also eligible to play for the Congo. After making a real splash in the States and with England lacking options up front, will Fabio Capello take a look at the MLS?
That may decide whether he's good enough - and interestingly whether the MLS is deemed good enough by Europe's football snobs.
