Why Gerrard and Joe Cole deserve credit for admitting the truth: England are not good enough

Credit to those England players who were open and honest after the dismal World Cup exit.

Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole to name but two were cutting and brutal about England's failings.

Until problems are addressed and until people admit mistakes are being made, you can never improve. Simply to blame a goal that never was is just to paper over cracks.

Fabio Capello knows all is not right with English football and the England team. I admit that I was lured into believing England were better than they are.

The Premier League is an exciting league but it's not the best league in the world. English teams had a bad year by their standards in the Champions League.

But to blame foreign players or a winter break is pathetic. Good foreign players should raise the standard and improve English players.

Compare the number of games English players play compared to other nations. Some play more, some play less.

England were simply not good enough. And thankfully, Cole and Gerrard were honest enough to admit while also looking for a few reasons.
