Why Tottenham should sell Bale now and why Carroll and Wilshere should be given the summer off

Tottenham should cash in and sell Gareth Bale this summer.

If they can get £40million for a player who is an outstanding talent but looks a bit fragile and gets a lot of injuries, that’s great business.

It would also enable Harry Redknapp to rebuild his squad and strengthen other areas.

Stuart Pearce wants his England youngsters to win next month's Under-21 European Championship, and that’s why he wants to take Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll to Denmark.

But that could come at a heavy cost. Carroll is nowhere near 100 per cent fit and could get injured. Wilshere desperately needs a rest.

The bigger picture is giving them tournament experience, so they are ready when Euro 2012 and the next World Cup come around.

Trouble is, that’s not much use if they are both injured and/or tired for next year’s finals.

And that’s exactly what will happen if they don’t get a proper rest this summer and a decent, structured pre-season under their belts.
