Sol Campbell was right to walk out on Notts County - but his career is over
Sol Campbell has taken a huge amount of stick this week for walking out on Notts County.
But I’m going to buck the trend and admit that I admire him for quitting. He could have stayed, picked up £40,000-a-week for the next five years and yet he’s told them it’s not working.
Yes, he’s let Sven Goran Eriksson and Notts County down. He’s also probably kissed goodbye to his career. But it’s not worked out and he’s gone.
Sadly, if he’s out of football until January then, at 35, he won’t be able to come back.
If he’d stayed in the Premier League by signing for a club like Aston Villa who offered him a contract then he’d still be in the top flight now. But that’s gone now and at least he’s been big enough to admit he got it wrong.
