Owen Hargreaves is one of the good guys.
Bright, thoughtful and measured, he’s the missing link in the England squad.
On form, Hargreaves is our best defensive midfield player.
But the longer he’s out, the bigger the doubt.
Has he the mental strength to combat physical weakness?
I hope so.

Aston Villa’s midfielder has nightmares about sudden, violent death.
He may never recover from the ordeal of being machine-gunned by terrorists.
Yet he, and his Togo team-mates, have been banned for daring to grieve.
If FIFA’s authority means anything, they should right a monstrous wrong.
