Why Steven Gerrard needs to go to Madrid and Steve Bruce needs his head examined

I last saw Steven Gerrard on the team bus, waiting to leave Bloemfontein.

He was on the back seat, leaning forward, with his head in his hands.

He seemed a tortured soul, a man at the crossroads.

The emotional pull, to remain at Anfield as part of the Roy Hodgson era, will be immense.

But it should be resisted.

He deserves a chance to reinvent himself, at Real Madrid.

*******

Does Steve Bruce have a death wish?

£7million, for the statue known as Matthew Upson?

That has to be one of those viral jokes, which clutter up cyberspace.

If it makes sense to the Sunderland manager, he’s been on the Newky Brown..

Or he’s finally been exposed, as Mike Ashley’s Secret Agent.
