Why I hope Scott Parker is named Player of the Year tonight

Persistence is an admirable quality.
Scott Parker has it in abundance.
He’s been a one-man team. His manager is mute, ineffectual.
His team-mates are prone to panic. He’s inspired them and become an England starter.
I hope his persistence is rewarded tonight and he is named PFA Player of the Year.

Benni McCarthy waddles off into the sunset.
A £1.5m pay off from West Ham is the price of his pride.
At least the gutsy South African striker retains his sense of the absurd.
He reckons Avram Grant didn’t speak to him because “he had a lot on his plate”.
No Benni, that’s your problem.
