Never mind £160,000 a week, John Terry is priceless to Chelsea

A salary of £160,000 a week is an eyebrow-raising sum even in football’s inflated market but if anyone in the game deserves it, it’s John Terry.

The Chelsea skipper, who has signed a new five-year contract, puts his body on the line every week for his club and plays through pain to an extent that he will suffer the consequences for many years to come.

Just as important, in an era where footballers rarely stay long enough at one club for supporters to be able to identify with them, men like Terry and Frank Lampard represent the heart of their team.

Without them, Chelsea would have no soul and soul is priceless.
