Why Manchester United legend Gary Neville deserves a magnificent send-off next week
This is an advert, basically, for a footballer who deserves it.
It is Gary Neville's testimonial next Tuesday night. A chance to say farewell to a player who epitomised the spirit of Manchester United, and their ferocious will to win, for well over a decade.
He was that rarest of footballers, a one-team man who did it for the love of the club and the game rather than the money.
His testimonial – much of the proceeds from which will go to charitable and community projects – will be against Italian giants Juventus at Old Trafford.
And as United fans ready themselves for the Champions League final a few days later, it will be a fitting time to pay tribute to one of the men who laid the foundations for all the team's recent success.
