No Eric or Robbo in my all-time Fergie team

I was asked for my favourite Manchester United XI from the Sir Alex Ferguson years for an ESPN show this week.

I left out Eric Cantona and Bryan Robson, but more United fans complained about the omission of Denis Irwin.

My team went like this: Schmeichel; Gary Neville, Ferdinand, Stam, Evra; Beckham, Keane, Scholes, Giggs; Ronaldo, Rooney.

What a shame the FA and the Premier League could not find a way to allow the FA Cup final to have a day to itself in the fixture calendar.

As a result, Saturday may see Manchester United seal their 19th league title a few minutes before Manchester City try to win their first trophy since 1976.

Both City and the FA Cup deserve better from the game’s administrators.
