Why Premier League clubs are spot on in banning the vuvuzela

The demands of English fans that vuvuzelas should be banned from World Cup venues were arrogant and disrespectful.

The playing of the instrument at football in Africa may have been a relatively recent tradition but it was still viewed as part of the game by African fans.

But I still think the English clubs who have said this week that vuvuzelas will not be welcome at their grounds have got it right.

Vuvuzelas have got nothing to do with English football. In fact, they would damage our tradition of communal singing.

In the hands of Africans, they represent decent musical entertainment. In the hands of Europeans, they amount to nothing more than a deafeningly mournful wail.

The vuvuzela has its place in football culture but it belongs in African grounds. Not in ours.
