It is no surprise that the ­transfer window this August has been one of the quietest ever, but there were still points of interest in the comings and goings.

Firstly, well done to Dundee United, who despite worrying debts, still found the resolve to tell Middlesborough where to stick their £600,000 for Craig ­Conway.

And congratulations to Ricky Foster for ­winning the shock move of the summer and a chance to ­really make a mark on the game at ­Rangers.

The fact that Aberdeen fans have already made him a hate figure tells you ­everything you need to know about some of the nuts who inhabit Pittodrie.

Good luck to ­Anthony Stokes who has won his move to Celtic, even if the ­undercurrent of contact ­between the parties stinks. It’s been the ­biggest open ­secret in the village!
