How bad eyes and good pies cost me a golf prize!

I'm absolutely gutted at just missing out on the top prize - a week in Portugal, all expenses paid - at Derby's annual golf day.

With two holes to go my playing partners and I were 14 under with the leaders in the clubhouse at 13 under. But we bogeyed both and ended up losing by a stroke.

I've got to look at the efforts of two of my playing partners here. We were playing in near-darkness towards the end and Gary Teale's eyes aren't the best in the light! I could feel things starting to slip away when, after every shot, he started asking me, "Where did that go?"

Rod from Marston's brewery held his end up but the fourth in our group was a bloke called Pete The Pies, who owns a few pubs and also owns a factory which makes pies.

Unfortunately being involved in those two industries has made him slightly larger than usual and by the end he was knackered. I comforted him by saying: "We've lost because you didn't just make the pies, you ate all of them as well."

So Tealey's eyes and Pete's pies cost us the prize!
