How mum almost ruined my big break, and there's something fishy about my wife's kipper
I love my mum Val to bits... even though she almost cost me my big break.
When I was a kid my dad managed our local youth club team, Bradley, and mum used to do the catering.
I'd done well in one game, and afterwards mum was pouring tea for the parents when a spectator came up and asked if he could have a chat to the manager about one of the players.
She told him dad was too busy to talk as he was getting all the dirty kit together ready to take home for washing.
The guy looked a bit crestfallen but he did leave mum his card... and when we looked at it later we found out he was a scout for Manchester United!
It was one of those classic “oh, muuuuuum” moments.
Mum doesn't come to watch me play anymore. I don't mind all the “Savage is a w****r” stuff but it really upsets her and she's walked out of a few games because of it.
For that, for all she's done for me down the years and for the way she looks after my dad, I think she's the best mum in the world.
Happy Mother's Day for Sunday, mum.

ROBBIE'S STORY OF THE WEE K
My missus cooked fish on Monday night. We went to bed and I woke up sweating in the middle of the night., then I raced to the toilet and threw up. And threw up again, and again, and again.
Then, right on cue, came a shout from the bedroom: “Are you all right, babe?” Why do people always ask that when it's obvious that you're not all right? You could be lying in a pool of blood and someone will come up and say, “Are you OK, mate?”
To be fair to the wife's cooking, Chris Porter and Jay McEveley have both been sick at work too, so maybe there's a bug going round at the club.
But much to Sarah's disappointment, I've told her it will be a long time before I go near her kipper again.

ROBBIE LOVES... My 'new' car. After turning up for work in a spanking white Mercedes, I told all the Derby lads I'd got yet another flash new car. In fact, I've just had my old black Merc wrapped in vinyl and put a new numberplate on it... well, as I come to the end of my career I've got to watch the pennies.

ROBBIE HATES... My war with the bin men. They only come every two weeks, but this week they've left one of my black bags, all neatly filled and tied up by me, on the street outside my house because it wasn't inside the bin... which was full already! Is this what we're all paying our Council Tax for? It's a load of rubbish.
