Mike Ashley must make a decision on Newcastle future... and quickly

Mike Ashley sets deadline after deadline to get Newcastle sold, but still no news. Today there will be a statement, says a club spokesman.

Or there might not be. Or there might be.

It has been like this since late May, when Alan Shearer warned that every day that passes without decisions being made, a room burns.

Surely it is coming to crunch time and the club’s ownership uncertainty has to be resolved once and for all.

On the pitch there relief that points are on the board, and an early season crisis avoided. To continue that good start, Ashley has got to make a decision, and quickly.
