Newcastle Chawke up another failed takeover tale of woe

Just to illustrate how publicity seekers have tried to make their name by being linked with buying Newcastle United, here is the latest from Irish publican Charlie Chawke.

The former part owner of Sunderland was linked with a buy out at St James’ Park back in July, despite having just sold his stake in Sunderland because the Irish economy was collapsing.

Back then he bullishly declared: “Newcastle is a very viable option. There’s great interest, it’s just a matter of putting the money together. Newcastle would fit very nicely into our portfolio.”

That got Chawke a nice bit of publicity from the gullible who took his words at face value.

Yesterday he was back kissing the Sunderland badge. He said: “Sunderland is my club and that’s the way it will be for the rest of my life. When some people heard that we were getting out of Sunderland they asked us to set up a consortium to get involved with Newcastle but I think that’s more or less been put to bed now.

“Sunderland is a very special place to me and I hold the club and the people close to my heart.”

So to summarise that Newcastle United takeover saga again. Interested parties: 367. Actual buyers with the cash: 0
