Stop being a Twit Miliband, and show your support for St James’ Park
A parliamentary campaign to protect the name of St James’ Park has attracted support from 30 MPs - impressive but there are still some significant names missing.
Tyneside politicians have been joined by many football loving colleagues in Standing Up For St James’ and added their names to an Early Day Motion urging Mike Ashley not to rename the ground and lose more than 100 years of heritage.
However, Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who happens to represent South Shields, and is a Labour leader in waiting, has yet to sign up.
Well, he’s a busy man you say, give him a break. Last week he jetted to Kabul.
True. But Miliband did find time to post the following message on his Twitter account last week following his trip to Afganistan.
“Just back from trip. Gather judges all loved Joe. South Shields fully behind him.”
Joe being X Factor star, Geordie Joe McElderry.
So come on Foreign Secretary, show your constituents that you know your football issues as well as your singing competitions.
After all Tony Blair was a Newcastle fan, you know.
Same goes for Nick Brown (Newcastle East) and Kevan Jones (Durham North). Sign up lads.
