Is Dimitar Berbatov misunderstood - or just an arrogant flop?
Dimitar Berbatov has always bristled at claims he is arrogant.
‘Misundersood’ is the word he prefers to use.
Even Sir Alex Ferguson has added to the propaganda, trotting out Prozone stats to prove that the Berbatov does more than his fair share of running when most of us see a man who has no interest in making the most of the talent he has been blessed with.
Interesting then that even back in Bulgaria criticism is starting to mount against the player who has scored more international goals for his country than anyone else.
According to one newspaper article, Berbatov has become a primadonna who has destroyed the spirit of the Bulgarian national team with his demands for preferential treatment.
Apparently, he now picks which games he will play in and for how long.
One unnamed player is quoted as saying: “Is he (Berbatov) a captain, a model or the mayor?”
Berbnatov decided that the best way to respond was through a blog.
His first post was entitled ‘Haters.’
Berbatov wrote: “I have this to say to all who envy, I am too high up to see you and even if I fell, I would not fall so low.
“I am the dog you love to hate because I am a big success.”
Arrogant or misunderstood? You decide.
My take on it is that in his first season at Manchester United following his £30.75million move from Spurs he scored 15 Premier League goals in a team that won the title.
If he had cost a couple of million more, played for Manchester City and was a Brazilian named Robinho he would have been branded a flop.
